Enterprise Systems Monitoring Engineer II at New York Community Bancorp, Inc. (Smithtown, NY)


Under limited supervision, an Enterprise Systems Monitoring Engineer II works closely with IT team members to understand advanced business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality, technical monitoring solutions. Participates in the full systems solution design to implement monitoring specifications into the banks monitoring software, including recommendation and implementation of code development to monitor systems. Designs, codes, tests, debugs, maintains, modifies and implements monitoring tools for hardware and software.


For each system, implements a multi-layered approach to the monitoring of the system including the physical host, operating system, services, application, interfaces and application experience. Works with vendors on the bank’s existing tools to identify each product’s life cycle and determine upgrade strategies for new releases. Understands Microsoft performance metrics as it relates to both the OS and applications. Reviews and documents performance trends and presents the results to executive management with capacity recommendations for applications, databases, server resources, and network infrastructures. Works independently as well as collaborates with application development, application engineers, business analysts, management and executive management. Reviews large and complex projects during the planning stage to identify requirements for monitoring. Works directly with engineers from other IT teams to assist in production issues by providing insight into system health through the use of the bank’s suite of monitoring tools and helps determine the root cause of issues. Coordinates with other departments and/or external vendors to review system topology and work flows. Works on multiple initiatives simultaneously while managing priorities. Responsible for providing accurate and timely communication of the status of assignment, job responsibilities, and the resolution of problems to the appropriate parties following established policies and procedures. Creates time estimates for large and complex assignments and tracks progress against major milestones. Ensures appropriate documentation is created and maintained. Adheres to NYCB policies, procedures and standards. Performs special projects and additional duties and responsibilities as required. Where applicable and when performing the responsibilities of the job, employees are accountable to maintain Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and adhere to internal control policies and procedures.


Bachelor’s degree in a computer science, business or finance related field or equivalent relevant experience. Five years or more experience in system analysis, design, coding and testing. Two years of network monitoring experience preferred. Experience in the administration of the CA Suite of monitoring tools including Spectrum, APM, SOI, eHealth, and Cloud Monitor preferred. Experience with, but not limited to, other system monitoring tools such as performance monitor, Microsoft SCOM, LogRythm, VMWare vCenter, NetMon, WireShark, Log Parser preferred.


Working knowledge of enterprise application architectures including N-Tier Architecture, public applications including mobile interfaces, web services, databases and messaging layers. Basic knowledge using programming languages C# .NET, JavaScript, Perl (a plus). Strong knowledge of multiple structured coding languages and distributed systems development techniques. Strong knowledge of system development life cycle concepts, practices and procedures. Strong knowledge of business and system workflow documentation methods.
