Missing Modules Message?

Some background: the organization that I work for is having trouble with our Drupal site’s display of certain blocks (particularly on our homepage) – we are on Drupal 7. I am not a Drupal developer, and any fixes will be carried out by a consultant, but I want a better understanding of whether this message could be related to our site woes when conveying this information to a professional.

When saving the configuration of the Modules page, this information appears (I have not saved a new configuration for fear of disabling critical modules):

  • The file_entity module is missing, so the following modules will be disabled: media_youtube, media_internet, media.
  • The metatag:metatag module is missing, so the following module will be disabled: metatag_views.
  • The views:views module is missing, so the following module will be disabled: metatag_views.
  • The drupal:system module is missing, so the following module will be disabled: metatag.
  • The ctools:ctools module is missing, so the following module will be disabled: metatag.
  • The token:token module is missing, so the following module will be disabled: metatag.

My understanding is that these are key modules to Drupal – what would cause them to go missing? Apologies if I am overlooking fundamental aspects of Drupal, I just want to be able to best explain our problem to a professional.
